Farah Barhorst is a seasoned cruise line executive, known for delivering industry-first results at Holland America Line and Seabourn. Farah’s entrepreneurial approach has driven first-to-sea brand partnerships and innovative programs generating measurable impact, including the first-ever Escape with Effy full ship charter — a record-breaking revenue achievement now emulated across Carnival Corporation. Her leadership has earned the President’s Leadership Award, given to just one in 11,000 employees, recognition in Seatrade’s 20 Under 40 as well as being Highly Commended in DFNI’s 2026 Inspirational Woman award. Outside of her day to day work, she contributes to the Women in Travel Retail mentoring board, championing the next generation of industry leaders.
What does this award mean to you personally and professionally?
Being ‘Highly Commended’ for Inspiring Woman of the Year is a deeply meaningful way to close my Onboard Revenue chapter, it’s a reminder that the work we do, and how we show up for the people around us, matters. It means everything to be recognised by an industry I love and a community I’m so proud to be part of.
What has been the most defining moment or achievement in your career so far?
Coming together with our Fine Jewelry Partner Effy and orchestrating the first-ever Escape with Effy full ship charter was pivotal, and a concept I am so proud of, but honestly, the moments that have defined me most are the ones where I had to lead through a challenging moment and come out the other side stronger.
What advice would you give to women building a career in Travel Retail?
Back yourself, even when the room doesn’t yet reflect who you are. Seek out mentors, be creative and never underestimate the power of showing up consistently and authentically, this industry rewards those who do.
What inspires or motivates you most in your leadership journey today?
My greatest motivation has always been watching others grow and step into their own confidence. Equally, getting to spend time with some of the incredible leaders in our business inspires me to keep raising the bar for myself and to never stop learning.
